I experience something similar. Some years back my secretary would see me sitting at my desk doing nothing, and reacted by saying something like: “Don’t you need to work on this problem?” She soon came to realize that my reply “I am” was accurate, and eventually allowed no one to interrupt me when I was in “pondering mood”.

The other type of pondering mood was to “sleep on it.” Countless times I have awakened in the morning with an answer, a plan, or some other resolution to the previous evening’s pondering.

But I’ve never captured either type of pondering on video. I also wonder what a real time MRI might discover?
