This last week, my son and I took a road trip from San Diego to Southern Ohio to see my family. It was my older brother's birthday, and we decided to show up unannounced. Everyone was surprised and excited we made it, my mom especially. I could almost see her “cooking gears” spinning in her head as soon as we walked in.
That's what my mom does - she makes great food.
It wasn’t long before my son started asking for several of her specialties - blueberry pie is one of his favorites. And so is what he affectionately calls "Gran's big breakfast." She pulls out the stops for us with pancakes, bacon, sausage, eggs, biscuits & gravy - the proverbial works. And it's all fantastic.
Honestly, I don't know how she can do it so well, so fast, and so consistently. But she does. And we talk about it often, while at home and away.
