All - My son and I are gearing up for a big trip back east to see my parents and to take the mini camper on its first grand excursion. Over the next few weeks, I'll try and keep up a regular stream of content, although it might be mostly short-format thought exercises like the one that follows. But I'll also share a few notes from time to time while on the road, discussing the camper build and how it performs. I hope you come along with us for the ride. ~JRC
If you make something from the heart, someone out there will appreciate it. ~Jon Batiste
I heard this quote on the morning news today and couldn't resist sharing it with you.
Jon Batiste is one of the most talented musicians of our time (of all time?), but perhaps his greatest attribute is kindness. The man radiates goodwill, and all around him benefit. His creativity no doubt spawns from this wellspring of love, and what he creates touches us so much more because of it.
There are many reasons to make things, whether music, dinner, or a chair. We can do it for the challenge. We can do it to see if we can. And we can do it to do it better than others. But we shine our brightest when we create out of love - love for our craft, others, and self.
If we make from the heart, we need not be the best or even all that good. Creating for love matters far beyond the tangible reality of what we create. It's that we try. And that we do it for the right reasons. In so doing, we make from the heart, and someone out there appreciates us for it.
Until next time.

Of course, someone will appreciate it, if everything you do or make with love comes from your heart
