We’re off! My son and I departed San Diego on Wednesday and made it to Beaver, Utah for the evening. Camping there was near-perfect. At elevation, the temp was ideal and there were no bugs to speak of. After a long first-day’s drive, we needed a good rest.
The trailer handled well and held up. I was nervous, though. Very nervous.
It’s a huge responsibility - making something from the ground up and then taking it on a cross-country trip. America’s highways are a treacherous place, now more than ever. One needs to trust his ride - a weight that fell fully on me and my build.
Needless to say, I haven’t taken this responsibility lightly.
We have gone the more northern route - up Through Las Vegas and into Utah. As mentioned, the later was nice and made for a great first stop.
This morning, I woke at three, broke camp, and hit the road with my son fast asleep in the back (of the car - I moved him, of course). As the sun rose on the horizon, I was reminded of why I love the West.
Colorado, while beautiful, was yet another test of the new build. I-70 between Vail and Denver is absolute chaos. The roads are wicked bad and everyone speeds along the stretch like it is the German Autobahn. While I love a twisty patch of pavement, today was another game altogether with the camper.
But again, all is well. My son loves having a little home on wheels. As I write, he’s inside now reading. Wonderful times, these are.
Have a great Friday, all.

Fantastic John! May the adventure continue. I’m looking forward following along. And, the bike is a great touch 👍
